The English language is just but one among the numerous languages spoken by different people around the world today. Perhaps it is the most widely spoken of all languages due to a number of factors. Perhaps one of the main reasons behind its prominence comes from its source or origin as others would like to put it.
Having originated from England just as the name suggests, it was able to travel across almost all the continents due to the movement of the native speakers into other territories in the world in the olden days. Besides the fact that most of the people who were originally from England traveled a lot in the ancient times for trade and exploration purposes, perhaps the greatest reason behind the wide spread use of the same is from the fact that the English tried as much as possible to teach their native culture to many of their subjects in the colonies.
To the inhabitants of the lands that were concurred and subsequently colonized by the British, it became a need to understand the languages spoken by the masters so as to enhance communication between the masters and natives. This trend quickly led top the growth of the languages in the colonies and other distant places where the explorers had a chance to set foot.
Away form the history of the spread of the language, it has become very apparent that it still continues to grow due to the relative ease of learning it or simply due to the fact that it has already become part of a culture that many have to live with. As a result, it has grown into a common ground where people can be able to transact and do business.
As a world renowned medium of communication, it has become the choice languages used in many international forums as well as conferences and there is always an advantage of understanding it in order to be able to do business remotely between people in very distant and different locations simply because they can easily understand each other well.
As one of the key languages studied in almost all institutions of higher education across the world, many students have benefited by simply being able to understand the dialect and as such they have been able to learn new things about new people as they socialize among many speakers.
Other reasons that have led to the continued dominance of the market by this single entity is that it has proved to be among the best rated subjects that many students still have to study with the learners having opportunities to learn a lot of new things that they may not have been able to do in the absence of languages.
With the ever growing number of new learners thanks to the introduction of the internet, the English language has been growing with the population of the world that understands the basics of the subject increasing by the day; it is most likely that in a few years to come, it might be spoken in almost every continent of the world.
