There are a lot of practical factors to consider when comparing graphic design courses. You would want to make sure that you will have a comprehensive curriculum, good teachers and the best facilities for learning. However, most prospective students prefer to learn more about the nature of the courses, how hard they are and how much homework they will have to do. This guide will help you find the answers to these and many other questions.

How will the classes be organized? The class schedule varies between the different graphic design courses. If you choose a full time mode of study, you will most likely attend classes every day. There are plenty of diverse subjects in most curricula, so you can expect to have a large number of classes. Those who prefer to study part time will have classes in the evenings and/or during the weekends. This means that you may have classes all day long on Saturday and Sunday and this can sometimes be tiring.

What will I do in class? All classes of graphic design courses take place in computer classrooms. Every student has his/her own work station with computer. Graphic design and all of the subjects related to it require practical work with different software programs. Therefore, in most classes, you will listen to the instructions of the teacher, take notes and perform various tasks under the teacher's supervision.

All graphic design courses have professional practice hours. During these hours, you will work individually or as part of a team on a graphic design project. You will put all of your works in your professional portfolio.

Is there too much homework? In general, you can expect to have a sufficient amount of homework. In most cases, students have to spend at least four to eight hours a week in practicing what they have learned in class.

Most students taking graphic design courses are worried about homework mainly because they need the appropriate hardware and software to practice. You will have to use a computer to do your homework, but this should not be a problem since all reputable colleges have computer facilities available to students outside of classes. You should have access to computers equipped with graphic design software either in a special computer room or in the library. It is possible to buy the hardware and software that you need.

Are graphic design courses hard? Will I do well if I have basic computer and art skills? The subjects are certainly not easy but they are not too difficult either, especially if you are passionate about graphic design. You should not find your studies too hard if you pay attention in class and do your homework.

You should not worry about having basic computer and art skills. Even if you decide to take a diploma course, you will have to take certificate level subjects in case you have no previous knowledge and skills in the field. In fact, most courses do not have any computer and art entry requirements.

Now you know what to expect from graphic design courses as a student.
