Some sophisticated ID cards like the ones with chip in it cannot be fully made on the ID card printers. One needs different machines to embed chip or magnetic strip. But most ID card printers can print the photograph along with textual details on the ID card. Number embossing as is done on credit or debit cards cannot be done with an ID card printer but with an embossing machine.
But an ID card printer surely increases your work and so it is important to know whether you really need it. So you could ask yourself these questions.
Is the requirement of ID cards large enough to warrant such a purchase?
The next important issue that is of concern when buying an ID card printer is that of security, especially if the ID card printer is to be used in high security areas. Thus access to the ID card printer has to be securely guarded usually by means of a password and other physical means.
