Wherever you may go today, identification is such a big issue with many important but every day activities is also governed by proof of identity, ID badges are the most common things that have to be issued on several occasions and the use of badge holders of all kinds has also become more frequent so that the ID card is protected and displayed properly.
The more commonly used badge holders are the transparent plastic ones that have an opening in the form of a slit at one end from where the ID cards are inserted. The transparent plastic material of the badge holders allows the card to be visible and read the printed details on it. Most badge holders have a hole punched in the side to secure the lanyard to it or to fix the clip that can secure the card holder to the lapel or pocket of the person. All other types of badge holders are variations of this basic design.
There are many types of Badge Holders that are made of different materials according to their use.
Clear Plastic flexible badge Holders are the most common type of badge holders that are used.
Colored Plastic Flexible Card Holders have a transparent plastic body but the upper edge or sides are made of colored plastic so that color coding can be used to distinguish different categories of badges.
Rigid Badge Holders are made of rigid plastic and can protect the cards that they hold in a better way.
Arm-Band Badge Holders can be tied round the arm where ID cards have to be displayed on the arm and not round the neck.
Proximity badge Holders hold proximity cards or contactless cards that are used as passes for transportation like Metro passes. Proximity cards have an electronic chip embedded in them for fare calculation. Hence these cards have to be better protected than ordinary ID cards. Badge Holders for proximity cards are usually stronger and afford better protection.
Some badge holders have a different shape or size or orientation depending upon the shape, size and orientation of the card to be displayed. Some badge holders are for multiple cards or some have magnets attached at the back if they have to be displayed on a metal surface.
Badge holders protect the cards and increase their life and so there is no need to replace them soon. Color-coded badge holders can be more useful in identifying the distinct category like department-wise differentiation or function-wise differentiation of the person who has to be identified. The badge holder and the lanyard that secures it keep the ID card from getting lost or misplaced thus preventing wastage. The badge holders display the card clearly and help in the quick identification process especially where there are a large number of people to be identified.
