Badge Clips keep badges held to the pocket or wherever you wish to place the badge. Badge clips are important accessories of an ID badge because without badge clips it is difficult to make the ID badge visible for scrutiny. Badge clips serve in place of lanyards which restrict the position of placing the ID cards; with lanyards the ID card can be worn round the neck only. Badge clips are more versatile since they can be clipped to the pocket or on the lapels or on the front button holes of the shirt or coat or dress. Badge clips can also be fixed to the belt loops of trousers.
There are many kinds of badge clips in the market. The more simple versions are just safety-pins that are attached to the plastic badge holder. The safety pin can be pinned anywhere to make the ID card visible to the security personnel. There are also badge clips that have a swivel motion and the ID card attached to these can be turned a full 360 degrees for proper scrutiny when these badge clips are used. Some badge clips have pincer like teethed jaws that can hold the fabric of the pocket or lapel securely. Another type of badge clips has more than one loop to attach more than one object. These badge clips can hold an ID card and something more too, like the pen or a key or a whistle.
The quality and cost of the badge clips depends completely upon the period of use. If the ID card has to be worn only once for a conference or a meeting or for entrance into a trade fair or some such occasion, the badge clips need not be very durable and expensive. But if the ID cards have to be worn everyday on the pockets for the time the employees are in the office or factory, the badge clips have to be long lasting and could be expensive.
The badge clips like lanyards prevent loss of the ID cards and hence care has to be taken to buy the right badge clips for your specific use. Most badge clips that have to be used everyday are made of good quality stainless steel and have small pincer shaped holders with teeth on them. The arms of the pincers are kept in a closed position by means of a spring. The arms are opened when the holders of the badge clips are pressed and you can affix the badge on the pocket or lapel by releasing the holder after the fabric is well in the grasp of the pincer arms. This will keep the ID card securely in place and it will not fall off or get lost unless specifically removed by the user.
Badge clips of different varieties are available in the market and can be bought off-the-shelf .
