After months of undergoing ‘the best’ construction and demolition in Mass, our house was still not ready for moving in. My wife, easily the most amazing woman on God’s green earth, was in utter disappointment, obviously thrilled to start life anew in our ‘humble little abode’; tired of renting out hotel penthouses, cheap motels and quaint apartelles all over. Trust me, humble and little are the last things that would come into mind when you see our fully refurnished house.
Home improvements in RI were apparently everyday feats. Or at least in our gated community wherein contractors doing pricey house framing in Mass were practically honorary members. As overjoyed as my better half was upon seeing mother’s wedding present – a spanking new Victorian style house in the heart of the suburbs – I couldn’t find the least bit of delight. For the record, I wasn’t lying when I said my wife was the most amazing woman alive, as she could charm her way through virtually anything. To prove my point, she was able to convince me to hire a high-end demolition in RI and an overly priced excavation in NE Conn to deconstruct our brand new house – only to have it rebuilt at a much more ridiculous sum a few weeks after.
The last thing I should do is fuss over the perfect house I share with my perfect wife. I know of men who would go to hell and back, sell their souls to the devil and suffer eternal damnation only to be in my position; and here I am whining like a girl. Don’t take me for an ungrateful fellow, I just think that there’s more to life than spending a fortune that could feed an entire poorest-of-the-poor nation on having a fully furnished house remodeled. It’s been half a year and we haven’t even officially moved in together as husband and wife. We’ve been backpacking in exotic locales halfway across the globe and going on endless tours for the past six months in case you’re wondering about the ‘haven’t moved in together’ bit. Bet you can tell whose idea it was to go traveling while our house has not gone through every remodeling detail.
I could die waiting for the day we move in to our own house and live the newly wedded couple life. Fellows most probably know the connotation of ‘newly weds’. Just to make things clear, that’s what I’m looking forward to. I could not think of any better way of savoring the joys of being man and wife than by staying in for days on end. To think of it, I may no longer have qualms about the spacious house with at least twenty rooms that have thickly padded walls – sound proof at that.
