Most people don't think of their gut as anything really special except a depository for fried food and barley pops. This is unfortunate because your gut health is arguably the most important factor in the state of your health, and most are treating it worse than the ex's in-laws.

How Are You Feeling?

If you are feeling confused, tired, irritated, jumpy, and slow to learn, and just a general malaise, you probably have gut issues. So many behaviors and pain come from an unhealthy gut, and since it is referred to as the second brain, it's not far fetched to understand why some people do not appear to "get it" or seem slow, or snappy. Many times it's not their fault and they are not intentionally being that way, but they are broken and can't reverse those feelings until their internal garden hose is fixed.

Why is it Important?

Your digestive tract is set up to absorb the broken down food particles that your teeth and stomach acid should have provided, and deliver them to the blood stream where they can be delivered to the rest of your body for essential functions.

Sounds easy right?

In normal conditions, that would be the case. But things aren't normal anymore. It has become increasingly difficult for your system to absorb nutrients when the terrain resembles a worn out wasteland with trash and debris resembling an unkempt trailer park. Our soft, pink digestive tracts were meant to absorb nutrients but we have done a fabulous job of littering them to the point that they are now a toxic mess, and are unable to perform the functions that they are fully capable of in good health.

How did we get here?

Years of processed foods with toxic ingredients have done to your intestines what round up does to your lawn - it destroyed the terrain with new growth to never appear again unless stripped, cleansed, and re-seeded.

On top of that we are consuming large quantities of food that are very hard to digest, which is exacerbated by improper chewing, and topped off with insufficient stomach acid. This leaves pieces of your steak to literally rot creating a toxic environment that facilitates an even lesser accommodating environment for further digestion down the road.

The Great Gut Balancing Act

How do we get out of this mess?

First, you need to clean the terrain. That means a cleanse of some type that will start to get rid of the accumulated toxic material and food that has went rancid in your "guts". Once you have done your spring-cleaning, you are ready for seeding.

Normally, your gut should be flourishing with a healthy balance of bacteria that is providing optimal digestion and a healthy ecosystem. Sadly, for most people the only thing that happening is an overgrowth, which is creating as much balance as a first time wake boarder. This is why introducing all forms of probiotics (good bacteria) will plant the seeds to a new system to keep the overgrowth in check.

There are several ways to get probiotics from kefir to sauerkraut and yogurt to kombucha. Be careful to choose those that have not been pasteurized, slapped with sugars, and have a number of other modified ingredients. There are several supplemental forms as well that are non-dairy that can do the trick.

Once you get those seeds planted, you will start to see how great you can feel with your inner ecosystem in full balance and flourishing. Wouldn't it be awesome to feel great, think clearly, be happy, and live without pain?

Then get to your gut quickly to clean, replant, and then watch everything change.

My gut tells me to double dog dare you.
