Any business that have a long term goal and keep their head up on sand during troubled time as of now; it is better not to invest money and time in social sites like Facebook, twitter or MySpace. These social sites are found to be worthless for long term scenario. Some still considers it as radio ads, but in fact they are worse than that; making little (very short term) or no impact in mind at all.
Twitter is something like the road sides scenes that you happen to find while you drive on highway. Just try to recollect them after an hour; barely you can. Remember your high school day; when the bell rang you ran to hallway and joined the chatters. Did you ever remember what one or other said in that pandemonium? So the twitter is.
Business with long term strategy, the most important factor lies you get the most for your dollar spent for marketing and that should have a long term effect. Marketing ventures through the social sites like MySpace, Facebook or twitter is always perceived as very short term business.
Short term marketing programs are taken by several companies to clear their stocks and meeting various other marketing goals. But that should not be taken that any company is out build their brand identity through these social sites like Facebook, twitter or MySpace. There are several examples that those who spent much for MySpace advertisement are running far behind second to Facebook.
In this weak economic scenario company should have a tight budget for advertisement and it should be invested with long term perspective, not with short term patch-ups. You must keep in your mind that you need to survive and last next, next to next and thereafter.
Twitter, MySpace or Facebook advertisements are for those who are out on slash and dash business; not for you if you have a long term program.
